The Film
Marina Beauty Journey has run as an annual youth-empowerment program since 2011, inviting young Indonesian women into educational and creative classes. The 2019 edition, #SemakinBersinar, selected twenty participants, Bintang Marina, for a Beauty Camp in Ubud, and this film captures the program's spirit through spoken-word lines about self-expression through traditional dance.
The Craft
Testimonial and aspirational in tone, the film favors direct-to-camera spoken word over a scripted narrative, letting real participants carry the message rather than actors reciting lines, in keeping with the program's real-people casting approach.
The Cast
An ensemble of young women, the program's Bintang Marina participants, carries the film, cast for authenticity as real program participants rather than professional talent or a single celebrity face.
